Volunteer

We need all sorts of volunteers to make the adventure happen, back room bodies as well as crazy leaders getting mucky with the young people.

The 5th Saffron Walden Scout Group provides incredible opportunities for nearly 200 youngsters aged 4-14. Whether it’s international trips, sleeping under the stars, making pancakes or learning our way around Saffron Walden, those young people within the group are getting memorable experiences and skills for life.

Sitting behind the amazing leaders, we also have an amazing support structure of trainers, activity instructors and executive committees.

Can you spare 20-30 mins a week to help out? Get in touch, you won’t regret it!

Appeals for Specific Roles:

Cub Scout Leader

We have an urgent need for a cub leader for one of our packs. You would be joining an experienced team of leaders and will get all the support and training you need – you will not be thrown in at the deep end! Even if you’re just a little bit tempted, please contact us for a chat and we can discuss this and other opportunities to find something that suits you.

Please see the advert below and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or are interested in taking on the role (or know someone who might)

Quartermaster (Group Equipment Manager)

We have a diverse range of areas where we need your help and support to enable us to do our best to help young people. Not all roles require you to stand up at the front of the pack (but you can if you want and we do need leaders!), and not all require you to be on our committee (again, let us know if you want to be). But all roles are as important in ensuring the smooth running of our amazing and expanding group.

To be bigger, better, stronger, we now need someone to help with all our equipment. Think tents, stoves, ropes. Even tent pegs and most importantly, the teapot. This role has no specific time commitment (generally busier in the summer between camps) so is ideal for someone who is busy but likes to while away an hour here and there tinkering and checking kit. Leaders and other volunteers will be there to help with more technical kit or provide support for heavy lifting stuff.

Please see the advert below and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or are interested in taking on the role (or know someone who might)

Treasurer

Currently we are in need of a new Treasurer. You do not need to be a qualified accountant (familiarity with spreadsheets and online banking will suffice!) and training will be given – the previous Treasurer is stepping down after nearly 7 years and is around to help with the transition. If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer, perhaps add something to your CV, but don’t fancy a scouts-facing role, this is a great opportunity to make a difference.
